Unfortunately that’s not really a solution given the nature of the game being that my actions and decisions are based off personal feelings and values. once the game logic error occurs, nothing can fix it. the only "fix" I have found after the save bloat starts is to go back to an earlier smaller save and do things in a different order/sequence or visit different places. Originally posted by cheshirm:I am 60 hours in and my save file is 4.7mb. I'm only half way through the main story and have only completed 2 of the DLC quests. To effectively cripple performance after so long is mind boggling how this ever came to be acceptable.

If this is the case it's a profoundly stupid way for Bethesda to code an engine for a game that promotes play within the 10's possibly 100's of hours per-save. I'm curious as to whether or not after all these years anyone has been able to figure out a way to circumvent this system or to at least develop a comprehensive and robust means to purging the unnecessary data from the save files that clogs up the save. Reading into this issue this appears to be tied directly to how the gamebryo engine saves data in that it saves every single piece of information and loading saves means you the game has to run through every single reference line since the start of the save file.

I've tried to use the Ne Vegas Save Cleaner but it's either not working or the instructions are for a Skyrim install and dont translate well to New Vegas.
Fnv save game cleaner Patch#
I've long since installed the 4GB patcher I've had it running alone with numerous stability mods and patch extenders since the start of the play-through. (If a fix can be found I'll post my step-by-step of how it works so others who encounter can follow along) If not, that's really tragic because it makes this game feel as if you're playing with arbitrary time/content limit preventing me from exploring everything within reason with a single playthrough. If anyone has a fix for decreasing save file size or any patch mods that will clean the save file to reduce those 2 - 3 minute load times I would love to hear them.

Are there any remedies to fixing the issue of growing save file size causing ludicrous load times or is this unfortunately a sad reality of this game in that you're essentially playing on a vague time limit forcing the player to complete the game before the engine keels over and dies from the save file bloat. The save file is roughly 70 hours into the play-through so as it stands I'm not interested in restarting a game to fix the issue of unbelievably long load time as I've become invested in this character. I'm only half way through the main story but I've been completing side quests and DLC quests as I go. Having researched relentlessly online for any solutions to this issue, I've currently found no fix to this problem but I'm hoping someone smarter than me in this discussions page can remedy this or at least point me in the right direction.Įssentially, my save file size has recently surpassed 16mb.
